Hearts of Lions’ head coach, Bashir Hayford, has received a five-match suspension from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee following unsporting behavior in a recent match against Karela United.
The incident unfolded after Lions lost 1-0, with Hayford allegedly confronting match officials as they exited the field.
The GFA condemned his actions as “unacceptable” and cautioned that further misconduct would lead to stiffer penalties. In addition to the suspension, Hayford faces a GH¢5,000 fine for verbally abusing the officials.
As a result, Lions will be without their head coach for key upcoming fixtures against Berekum Chelsea, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, Samartex, and Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League.
In another disciplinary action, Berekum Chelsea’s CEO, Obed Nana Nketia, has been fined GH¢20,000 after attempting to access the referees’ dressing room with supporters and assaulting a police officer while inciting fans against security personnel. He is required to settle the fine within 10 days.
Additionally, Nations FC has been handed a one-match home ban after crowd disturbances marred their matchday six game against Bibiani GoldStars at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. The GFA continues to stress the importance of professionalism and safety within the league.
