Heavyweights Besiege Amasaman Over Parliamentary Primaries
Scores of high profile personalities in business and politics over the weekend thronged the Amasaman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region for its Parliamentary Primaries.
The much anticipated primary of the governing New Patriotic party (NPP) saw high ranking persons including the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Shi Ting Wang and his entourage in attendance.
The others are the NPP’s National Election/Research Officer, National Deputy General Secretary, the Regional Chairman, over ten Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) as well as the Regional Deputy Secretary and the Regional Financial Secretary.
The gesture, party officials at the Constituency say is good for the NPP in the lead up to the 2020 polls.
They insist that with the same enthusiasm the MP-elect, Akwasi Owusu Afrifa Mensah put in the primaries, the NPP can capture the seat in election 2020.
The Amasaman NPP officials noted that with focus and determination the seat would be won in next year’s polls. Mr. Afrifa Mensah warded off stiff competition from three other aspirants to grab the seat.
The man, widely described as the obvious choice for the Constituency polled 346 of valid votes cast with Clement Nii Lantey Wilkinson trailing him with 304 votes.
Two others-Isaac Kwaku Minta Sackey and Muriel Nana Oye Coffie Ago managed paltry 10 and 8 votes respectively in the election that saw 694 out of a total of 711 delegates expected to cast their ballot.
