The CEO of RTP Awards, Mr. Prince Mackay, has called on radio presenters in Ghana to dedicate the first weekend in the month of October to promote the comeback of hip-life sensation Okomfo Kwadee.
He believes the move will help show “industry solidarity” for betterment of the artiste.
Kwadee, known in real life as Jerry Anaba is a fine musician who blends indigenous Ghanaian folktales with urban sounds.
The artiste has been in-active in the music business for some years now, and was recently reported to be undergoing rehabilitation treatment.
He is expected to stage an introductory performance after years of silence this weekend at the 8th edition of the Radio and Television Personality Awards, (RTP Awards 2018) at the Accra International Conference Centre to more than five thousand expected live audience and more through broadcast.
Speaking to The Publisher, Prince Mackay said “He is a strong brand. We have been supporting him but we must make it an effort to promote his songs this weekend. Let’s dedicate Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October to the active airing of Okomfuor Kwadee’s music.”
He disclosed that the artiste has a tour planned in Europe, and stressed that his performance at the RTP awards would help boost his morale.
“I don’t believe we are wicked people. Ghanaians love Kwadee and will love to hear his songs, only if the presenters will play it. This guy has done so much for our music and at this particular point in his time, even though playing the songs will not bring him direct cash, he will be happy to know his people still have him in mind,” he further explained.
The call adds to the many advocacies pushing for more local contents in the media by some stakeholders with some stressing on strict 80% or Ghanaian contents.
Okomfo Kwadee through his songs like ‘Aboro ne Bayie’, ‘Ataa Adwoa’, ‘Ka Wo Nan to So,’ among others used his unique rap style to tell stories in a unique and captivating way and many cannot wait to have him back on the music scenes.
He is considered as one of the legendary Hiplife artistes in the Ghanaian music industry
About six years ago, it was reported that Kwadee was mentally ill. Just when he tried to bounce back into the music industry with ‘Fiifii’ and ‘Di Kan,’ his condition aggravated and was taken to the Willing Ways Foundation Rehabilitation Centre where he received the needy care is read.
Information has it that he is currently recording songs which will soon be released.
