Police officers and soldiers have been deployed to the Northern Regional capital Tamale to jointly patrol the area and crush any troublemakers who may want to frustrate the Dagbon peace roadmap drawn by the three-member Committee of Eminent Chiefs.
The Otumfuo-led Committee announced earlier this month that both Abudu and Andani royal families in Dagbon should perform the funeral rites of their respective late overlords, Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Ya Na Yakubu Andani II.
As a result, the security situation in the Northern Region has been beefed up to curtail any disturbances.
According to the PRO of the Northern Regional Police Command, the security will do everything within their powers to ensure that there is peace before, during and after the two funerals.
DSP Yussif Tanko entreated the people of Dagbon to be peaceful and cooperate with the security agencies to ensure a successful implementation of the roadmap.
“We are poised to assist them, we are poised to protect them but the populace would also have to act well”, he stated.
DSP Tanko said adequate logistics will be provided to the officers to ensure absolute security and peace in the area. He said the security bodies are relying on intelligence on the ground in ensuring that peace prevails in Dagbon.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed has charged the security personnel to ensure absolute peace till the enskinment of a substantive Ya Na.
Mr Sa-eed commended the chiefs and residents of the area for their maximum cooperation thus far. He, however, warned that anyone who will hide under the cover of darkness to plot mayhem will be dealt with decisively.
“No individual or group will take the laws into his or her own hands. The security is ready and all forces will be marshalled to deal with whomever would want to thwart the effective and smooth implementation of the roadmap that would lead to total peace in Dagbon,” he stated.
