Highlife Songs Are Timeless – Bless
A fierce promoter of Highlife music, Bless of ‘Chocho Mucho’ fame, is not pleased with the perception in the minds of many people that, highlife songs are meant to die in six months.
According to him, the genre is a timeless one that ought not fade out within six months after release.
Speaking in an interview with NKG Nana Kwame Gyan on the ‘Highway’ show, aired on Accra-based Yonkopa 89.1 FM, Bless argued that, authentic highlife songs are different from other genres, which largely capitalize on the social platform for promotion.
”To call any real highlife song to get off the system by six months is wrong. If any such song dies in six months, then it’s not a good product worthy of the Industry. Highlife isn’t meant to die in just six months. It is meant to stay, to be enjoyed and danced to by people, every day,” he said.
He reiterated that upcoming musicians need to sharpen their songwriting abilities in other to come out with timeless songs.
For Bless, whose real name in Bless Kwabena Boateng, people with knowledge about Highlife should correct the wrongs in the minds of the general public before things get out of hand.
“This subject is a recipe for disaster and that is why I have found it necessary to address it before it’s too late. If we cannot classify highlife as Reggae, why should we categorise pop as Highlife?” he asked.
Bless was under Mark Okraku Mantey’s Slip Music for four years before moving to his new management, STB House Entertainment in 2016.
He has known for songs like Bless Medenda ft Okyeame Kwame, ‘Moonlight’, among others.
