Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency of the Volta Region are incensed over a decision by the Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa, to recommission some ambulances assigned to the region.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday, January 28, 2020, commissioned some 307 ambulances for distribution to the 275 constituencies in the country.
There were reports that the various Regional Coordinating Councils, as well as local authorities, are also re-commissioning the ambulances.
Unhappy with the development, the leadership of the Ho Central branch of the opposition NDC described the recommissioning ceremony held in the Volta Region as an “exercise in mediocrity.”
“Though these ambulances will play critical roles in our health care delivery system, it is not the end in itself to the myriad of problems that confront the health sector hence much money should not be wasted on this pomp and pageantry before these items are handed over,” a statement from the Ho Central NDC stated.
The statement signed by Sefadzi Agama, NDC Ho Central Constituency Communication officer, chastised government over the issue insisting that: “the intention of the Regional Minister is a loud testament to the fact that the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government has achieved very little despite the huge resource at its disposal hence making a festival out of this ambulance distribution.”
