I’m Not Jealous of My Wife’s Success — KOD
He is in fashion business as his wife whose career has in recent times been on the up and up so it is natural for there to be some envy but media personality, Kofi Okyere Darko aka KOD, says he is not perturbed at all about the success of his better half, Ophelia Crossland.
Ophelia’s brand is patronised by many celebrities and she was the only African and first Ghanaian designer to showcase her work alongside over 50 other designers from around the world at this year’s Swarovski Sparkling Couture Infinity Exhibition in Dubai which took place recently and KOD is happy for her.
“I am not jealous at all. She is my wife and I am supposed to be her shoulder, in fact I am excited about the successes my wife has chalked in the fashion industry.
“As part of my contribution to her work, I serve as a Public Relations Officer for her brand so you see, there is no competition between us and nothing like jealousy.
How can I get jealous over something that I am helping to build,” KOD said in an interview with Showbiz.
“It is not supposed to be so, she is winning awards in her own field just as I am in my media line,” he continued.
Giving a little insight into their marriage and business life he said, “when we started dating, she had been in the fashion industry for like five years but she was doing it for friends and sketching for them as well so I decided to use my brand to give her the push she deserves.
“The truth is that she is extremely hardworking and she deserves all the success she is enjoying and more. She is a trained fashion designer and I am a fashion enthusiast so luckily it worked for us.”
Though everything may look glittery on the outside, the host of The Zone on Starr FM did not hide the fact that they have their own issues and fight sometimes.
“We do fight but it is for reasons that are both beneficial to us all. For instance, before I put life into any design, she has to approve it. She is the creative director of all the brands including the Ohemaa Kids Clothing line which belongs to my daughter.”
Ophelia’s fashion brand has been around for over a decade and she has designed for some influential personalities including Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
She has also ventured into costuming for movies, with her debut job being on Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Love Or Something Like That.
KOD undoubtedly has a very busy schedule balancing his media job with his fashion line but he says he makes time for the girls in his life.
“I have two girls and yes I do my best to have time for them. In my home, we do not joke with our weekends. Weekend is family time unless there is something that we do not have control over. I make sure I see them before they go to bed,” he noted.
On what the future holds for him, he said he is looking at owning a fashion conglomerate while still remaining relevant in the media.
