‘I Am Still in The Race’ – Alhaji Short
The Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abubakari Abdul Rahman, popularly known as Alhaji Short, has debunked claims that he had withdrawn from contesting for the National Chairmanship position.
According to him, he is still in the race and would be on the ballot paper come July 7, to contest with the current Acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay and Stephen Ntim.
In a statement issued yesterday, he said: “We wish to assure all members, supporters, and sympathizers of the NPP, home and abroad, all the well-wishers of Alhaji Short, and the Ghanaian public that Alhaji Short is in the national chairmanship race of the NPP to win it. His ASEMPA YE SHORT message is being received well by the king-makers (the delegates) of our party.
“Our democracy allows for the people or their representatives – the delegates of the national conference in this instance, to decide upon whom they see as best able to serve the interest of the party. And, God willing, ALHAJI ABUBAKARI ABDUL-RAHMAN (Alhaji Short) will submit himself to the will of the people in this contest in July 2018,” he stressed.
Background
Alhaji Short has been Regional Chairman for three consecutive times and was recently credited for moving the Upper West Region, which hitherto had no parliamentary seat in 2012 to the current status of four members of parliament.
He has been a polling station agent, constituency chairman, regional chairman for 12 years, chairman of regional chairmen, member of both the National Council (NC) & National Executive Committee (NEC); and disciplinary committee.
His supporters believe he is the best person to lead the party as he had served from the local and community level, to the regional and now the national stage.
