I Did Not Receive Any Money From NHIA’’ ― Adwoa Safo
The Minister for Procurement and Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has debunked claims that she received payment of US$8,500 from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for a purported leadership programme.
According to the minister, the sponsorship request was to enable her undertake a training session in the Women and Power Executive Program at the Harvard Kennedy School, in the United States of America (USA) but was withdrawn due to government’s assistance.
In a statement signed by Miss Safo, “The request was subsequently withdrawn by a letter dated May 21, 2018 due to Parliament’s decision to foot the entire cost of training which includes the cost of her tickets and the accommodation.”
She further explained that the NHIA had officially confirmed that they did not make any payment to her adding that parliament sponsored her to pursue the said leadership program.
“Parliament’s resolve to sponsor the training session was borne out of the fact that the office she occupies in the legislature as Chairperson of the Women Caucus is a critical one,” the statement read.
The Minister stated categorically that she has not received any form of assistance from NHIA.
“It must therefore be stated that Hon. Adwoa Safo did not receive any money from NHIA nor did she authorize any person to do so. All documents that support this claim have been attached to this statement,” the statement stressed.
