‘I don’t do Illegal Mining; Allegations are False’ – Kweku Baako
Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has debunked claims made against him by Hon Kennedy Agyapong that he and his boy investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas are involved in illegal mining popularly known as ‘Galamsey’.
The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong had alleged earlier this week that the seasoned journalist, together with a couple of well-known figures in the media, are involved in galamsey.
According to him, “I have dig Kweku Baako and his boy (Anas) very well. I have documents to suggest that he owns a mining company called C&J and he has been managing this company for years.”
Contrary to other allegations by Minority of Parliament and Chiefs of the Amasiman area in the Ashanti Region that other strong members of the governing party New Patriotic Party namely Chairman Wontumi and Sir John are all engaged in illegal mining in the Ashanti Region.
The veteran Journalists contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo‘, Kweku Baako stated emphatically that, he is not engaged in illegal mining and that, it will never be part of him.
” I have never and will never engage in illegal mining business, even there is no engagement from my end on the legal one, have not gotten close to it and cannot happen. It will not happen and it must not happen. have said about this and will say it again. Illegal mining is not in my DNA” – he said on Kokrokoo Show.
According to him, they were a lot of intrigues within the Mahama administration and the Minerals Commission all, notwithstanding some members of the NPP also got themselves involved in the action immediately after the 2016 election declaration.
” Am beginning to sense that because of the ongoing investigation on illegal mining,YES the investigation is underway and feel some people are afraid. They are afraid of something that is on its way warranting to such irrelevant and baseless statements. ” – he added.
Explaining further, he made his loyalty to President Akufo-Addo known well to the general public describing it as irreversible and irrevocable, but he has no such loyalty to all the people around him or out there. He believes and mostly aware of integrity of persons first followed with justice . So when the time comes, whoever falls in the investigations falls, it’s as simple as that.
