‘I Don’t Need Songwriter Title’ …Kofi Kinaata Jabs Rex Omar
Ghanaian singer, Kofi Kinaata, has replied veteran highlife musician, Rex Omar after the latter described the former as a good lyricist but not a good songwriter.
According to him, winning Song Writer of the Year award at the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with his ‘Things Fall Apart Song,’ is not his priority.
Rex Omar recently listed his top five Ghanaian songwriters and left out Kinaata because “he’s a good lyricist and not a songwriter.”
His list of songwriters included musicians Amandzeba Nat Brew, OJ, Okyeame Kwame, Reverend Yawson, Akwaboah and Ephraim Amu.
But reacting, the Fante Rap god said: “It is his opinion and he knows too much. My fans call me the Fante Rap god, and he also has his opinion. I don’t want to talk about it. Ronaldo has speed, dribbles and all that but some say he’s not a footballer. That’s how I see it.
“I just did the song and I think there are stuff that I need to say and I said it. Songwriter of the Year will be a bonus. That wasn’t the motive for the song. I just wanted to do a song that would address issues and that is what I did, people love it so I’m okay,” he said.
‘Things Fall Apart’, which was released a few weeks ago, has received plaudits from music lovers for its theme and the depth of the lyrical content.
The song mentions the ills of society, as the singer questions the religiosity of people in society who commit various wrongdoings.
Kofi Kinaata, who had once won the Songwriter of the Year Award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, has hit songs like ‘Susuka’, ‘The Whole Show’, ‘Made in Taadi, Confession’, ‘Adam and Eve ’and‘ Single and Free’ to his credit.
