I Don’t Support Hearts- Otumfuo Speaks
THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has debunked rumors that he is an ardent supporter of Accra Hearts of Oak.
He said he has never supported Hearts of Oak in his life before, stating that he was alarmed when some faceless people started to spread the hoax report.
The Asantehene, who is the owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, was speaking when Kotoko presented the FA Cup trophy to him at the Manhyia Palace.
“I have not supported Hearts of Oak before in my entire lifetime but I was accused of being a Hearts of Oak fan by some faceless people”, he said.
According to the King, the false reports that he was a Hearts of Oak supporter started to spread like wild fire when he ascended the Golden Stool in 1999.
Otumfuo, who lived most of his youthful life abroad, said he was a not football lover before he became King, so he was surprised about the rumours.
“I did not have any passion for football yet they fabricated rumours that I was a fulltime supporter of Hearts of Oak, which was false”.
The Asante Monarch confessed that he started to develop interest in football after he became the Asantehene, which automatically made him Kotoko owner.
Kotoko, it would be recalled, whipped arch rivals, Hearts of Oak, 3-1 to win the FA Cup at the Tamale Sports Stadium, recently.
The Kotoko management, headed by club CEO, Dr. Kwame Kyei, led the Kotoko playing body to the Manhyia Palace to present the FA Cup to Otumfuo.
The trophy presentation ceremony, which happened on Wednesday, was graced by teeming Kotoko fans from Kumasi and beyond.
