I Support Free SHS – Ricketts Hagan
A PRESIDENTIAL aspirant in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Ricketts Hagan, says he supports the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
The social intervention programme was introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, but since its introduction, several NDC bigwigs have openly kicked-against it.
However, Ricketis Hagan, the NDC Cape Coast lawmaker, insists it is a great policy, which can help improve the human resource base of the state.
According to him, the policy would not be discarded, but rather be improved under his presidency.
“Free SHS is a good policy and so I support it. If I become the president of Ghana on the ticket of the NDC, I will make sure the programme is sustained”.
Hagan, however, hinted that he would make some adjustments, with regards to how it should be funded.
“I will fund the free SHS with monies that will be generated from the country’s natural resources and will not burden the people with taxes.
“Increasing taxes to make life unbearable for them in order to raise money to fund the free SHS as the NPP is doing now, is not the right thing, and I will change it”.
The aspirant, who also insisted that he was the right person to lead the party, said his campaign had been successful so far.
