The assistant chef who assisted Chef Ebenezer Smith in his cook-a-thon attempt, Leticia Martekie Sankah, has publicly apologized for the counterfeit Guinness World Records certificate that Chef Smith presented.
According to her, assisting Chef Ebenezer Smith in his cook-a-thon attempt, was only to showcase her culinary skills. Emphasizing that she was “unaware of the fraudulent intentions.”
In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 7, Sankah explained that she was simply supporting her friend, Chef Smith, during his record attempt.
Leticia Sankah expressed her remorse for her contributions to Chef Smith’s controversy and apologised.
“I offer my sincerest apologies for my involvement in Chef Smith’s cooking marathon. I was unaware of the fraudulent intentions and believed I was supporting a friend in a legitimate endeavor.
“My intention was to showcase my culinary skills and support someone I trusted.
“However, I now understand that my actions contributed to the situation. I take full responsibility for my part and assure you that I have learned from this experience,” her Facebook post read.
Meanwhile, self-proclaimed Chef Ebenezer Smith, has issued a sincere apology to Ghanaians for fabricating his Guinness World Records (GWR) certificate on Tuesday, July 2nd.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Chef Smith hosted a press conference where he claimed to have set a new record for the longest individual cooking session.
He supported this claim with a fabricated certificate. The cooking attempt lasted for a month, starting in February 2024 and concluding on March 6, 2024.
However, after several controversies and doubts, social media users sought an inquiry from the Guinness World Record about Chef Smith’s GWR certificate.
In response, GWR maintained that the current record holder for the longest cooking by an individual is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.
According to the GWR, Chef Smith does not possess any title for the longest cooking record nor has he been granted any certificate.
‘We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” GWR said in its response.
In a dramatic manner, Chef Smith has apologised for his actions. In a yet-to-be aired interview with Accra-based channel, GH One TV, he claimed his quest to satisfy his hunger caused his actions.
He expressed remorse for his actions pleading for forgiveness from Ghanaians.
“I apologise to the world that I am so sorry, I don’t deserve to live but my hunger caused my actions and landed me this way. I am sorry to the entire nation,” a remorseful Chef Smith said while wailing uncontrollably.
