I Wasn’t Treated Fairly in The VGMA – Kurl Songx
The winner of the Season 5 of the MTN Hitmaker music reality show, Kurl Songx, has registered his displeasure at the turn of events at his year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Kurl who spoke to Kwame Dadzie in an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s Celebrity Radar stated that he believed the organisers erred in their nominations.
According to him, while the video of his ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ deserved a Music Video of the Year nomination, he also thought he should have been nominated in the Male Vocalist of the Year.
He further complained that ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ should have been nominated in the Highlife Song category – not Afropop.
“I wasn’t satisfied with the awards because we filed for Male Vocalist of the Year but I wasn’t nominated. We also filed for Highlife Song of the Year. I know for a fact that Jennifer is a pure highlife song but I didn’t get nominated for that. I was rather put under Afropop,” he said.
“My management put in a lot of work, shooting quality video in South Africa but it was not nominated. To me it wasn’t fair because I thought I had tone of the best videos in the system,” he added.
He said he was also disappointed that he did not win the Best Collaboration of the Year award with ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ which features Sarkodie. That award went to Shatta Wale and the Militants for the song ‘Taking Over.’
Kurl Songx became popular after the release of ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ which irked the people of Kroboland who claimed a portion of the song was an affront to their tribe.
Kurl Songx also has songs like ‘Whistle’ and ‘Feeling’ which features the late Ebony Reigns.
He is currently being managed by Highly Spiritual Music and Blaq Standard Entertainment.
