From all indications the seeming bad blood between Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka ‘Wontumi’ and Kwabena Agyapong, Suspended General Secretary of the party will finally be settled in court.
Responding to Agyapong’s recent threat to drag him to court for defamation, Wontumi, he is ready to face his party’s suspended General Secretary in court anytime.
All Mr. Agyapong had requested for through his lawyers was for Wontumi to retract and apologize for the defamatory comments he repeated several times on radio stations in both Accra and Kumasi.
Mr. Agyapong had given Chairman Wontumi, up to today Friday November 3 to retract the negative allegations or risk being sued but the Chairman seems to have a different game plan which does not include an apology of any sort.
Wontumi’s Initial Allegation
“Mr. Agyapong is being used by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to distract public attention from Nana Akufo-Addo’s good works”, Wontumi alleged on Nhyira FM on Tuesday.
It is recalled that Chairman Wontumi last week alleged on Nhyira FM and Neat FM that Kwabena Agyapong, during his tenure as the NPP General Secretary, compromised his position by taking a plush car from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and working for the NDC to defeat the NPP during the 2016 polls.
Letter From Lawyers
In a notice served by Mr. Agyapong’s lawyers, Sarfo Gyamfi and Associates, the embattled General Secretary asked Chairman Wontumi to retract a slanderous statement made against his person.
The lawyers complained that Chairman Wontumi’s claims are only meant to expose him Mr Agyepong to ridicule, distrust and contempt by all and sundry, especially members of the NPP who support and even voted for him.
Wontumi’s Response
Wontumi, who seemed provoked by the legal threat, dared: “I will mock Kwabena Agyapong if he fails to send me to court”.
He said: “Go to court, I will face you there with my lawyers. I will not apologize to Kwabena Agyapong for saying he worked against the NPP, which is true”.
“What led to your suspension?”, he asked, adding that Agyapong was suspended by the NPP leadership because of the car he took from the NDC.
“I have a copy of the reasons that the NPP national council cited before they suspended him from the party so I am ready to face him in court”.
More Accusations
Wontumi further accused Agyapong, saying: “He is still in bed with the NDC, who are using him to distract attention from Nana’s good works”.
He predicted that, acting on the orders of his paymasters, Mr. Agyapong would soon come out with series of distractive acts against the NPP government.
Kwabena Agyeapong, has generally denied all such allegations which have been thrown at him for the last two years. There are even conflicting allegations on who exactly gave him the supposed car. While some say it was Ibrahim Mahama, others claim it was John Mahama.
None have however provided any evidence whatsoever to back the claims.
