ASHANTI REGIONAL Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has stated emphatically that he will not resign from his position.
According to him, there is so much honour in being the chairman of the ruling political party in its stronghold of Ashanti Region therefore he would not step down.
There have been incessant calls from several corners on Mr. Antwi Boasiako, who is nicknamed as ‘Wontumi’ in political circles, to step down from his position as NPP regional chairman.
Interestingly, the calls on Wontumi to step down are coming from his own party members, who are pointing to him as the cause of the NPPs poor show during the polls.
But in a sharp reaction, Wontumi stated categorically that he would not kowtow to the massive pressure from his own party members to quit his ‘juicy’ party position.
He said he is appreciated and hailed by top gurus in the party, especially the other regional NPP chairmen for leading the NPP in the Ashanti Region, so he would not quit.
“When we meet in Accra during NPP meetings, my colleague NPP regional chairmen give me special respect because l lead the party in our stronghold in the country.
“Some of my colleagues calls me Otumfuo’s grandson and the leader of the NPP in the Ashanti Region and I always enjoy being pampered that way by my colleagues.
“My brother, being the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP is very special for me and I will not leave this position today or tomorrow”, Wontumi declared on Tuesday.
Speaking on his own Wontumi Television in Kumasi, he said contrary to what his critics say, his management performed well for the NPP during the December 7 polls.
