Iced water seller takes over police job

A FEMALE street vendor who sells iced water in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, has virtually taken over the work of the police service.

The lanky-looking lady has done the unthinkable by directing vehicular traffic on a busy road in the boisterous city.

The lady, whose identity is unknown to the paper, is often seen directing traffic at the Top High traffic light near Tech. .

Last Monday, electric power supply to the traffic light, which is on the main Kumasi-Accra highway had been cut, resulting in congestion.

Surprisingly, police officers who are mandated by law to direct traffic to ensure the free flow of vehicles, were not there.

The traffic kept piling up and so the water seller, who plies her trade on the road, decided to intervene to save the situation.

The lady, who looks like a courageous person, then put her water aside and started to direct traffic to the amazement of all.

The intervention of the lady helped to ensure free flow of vehicles to the delight of drivers, commuters and pedestrians.

Some of the people that witnessed the impressive work of the water seller, heaped tons of praises on her for being patriotic.

Other people also lambasted the police for reneging on their duties, saying “they only like collecting money from drivers”.
