The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on Ghanaians to dismiss false prophecies that will threaten national peace and stability as the December elections draw near.
Speaking through the Chief of Sewua, Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie, during the annual prayer gathering on November 29th, 2024, he urged religious leaders to promote unity rather than predictions that could incite division or unrest.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Sarkodie stressed the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s peace, particularly during the election season.
“Ghanaians must focus on what unites us and ignore divisive and false prophecies” he remarked, echoing the Asantehene’s plea for harmony.
The Asantehene expressed concern about self-proclaimed prophets whose predictions appear to align with partisan interests.
“We will be going to the polls very soon. Otumfuo said I should tell you some individuals are engaging in false prophecies. Some claim to be making prophecies to favour the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while others also make prophecies to favour the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“They have all forgotten that they have people among their followers who belong to different political parties and also hold different views,” Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie said.
He stressed that both citizens and religious leaders must work together to keep the country peaceful.
The annual prayer gathering also included intercessory prayers for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, highlighting the importance of divine guidance for national leadership.
Meanwhile, schoolchildren in Kumasi have taken to the streets to advocate for peace. Their demonstrations underscore the urgency of harmony during this critical period. The children’s peaceful marches reflect a growing call for calm and understanding across the nation.
In addition, political parties recently signed a peace pact, reaffirming their commitment to nonviolence during the elections. These initiatives highlight the collective resolve to protect Ghana’s democratic stability.
The Asantehene’s call for peace and unity serves as a reminder of the pivotal role Ghanaians play in safeguarding their nation. As the December 7 polls approach, citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, avoid words or actions that cause division and work together to ensure a smooth electoral process.
