IGP Meets Otumfuo At Manhyia
THE MANHYIA Palace, the official seat of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, yesterday received an august visitor, in the person of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, who stormed the palace, ostensibly, to pay homage to the Asante King.
As per traditional demands, the IGP and his entourage were made to pay homage to the Asante Monarch, who sat in state.
There was wild applause across the palace when the IGP finally shook the hands of Otumfuo and exchanged pleasantries with him.
In a short speech, Mr. Asante-Apeatu, who disclosed he was at the palace to receive the blessings and wise counsel of Otumfuo, described the Asantehene as his father, and recounted the support Otumfuo had given to him in the discharge of his duties.
He requested for more support from Otumfuo, the chiefs and the people of Kumasi to boost security in the country.
The Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia, on his part, urged the IGP to continue to adhere to the wise counsel of Otumfuo.
He said the public depends on the police to provide effective security, and urged the IGP to sustain his hard work.
Some of the Asante chiefs at the palace also showered praises on Mr. Asante-Apeatu for his visionary leadership so far.
They said the IGP doesn’t talk much but always makes sure that his men are on top of the security situation in the country.
As expected, Mr. Asante-Apeatu stormed the palace in the company of top police officers from the national headquarters.
