I’ll Break 8 Year Jinx – Ntim
Stephen Ntim, an aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the Akufo-Addo-led administration is implementing bold policies to deal with the weakness in the Ghanaian economy.
According to him, if he becomes the next National Chairman of the party, he will partner the president and government to ensure that more of such pro-poor policies are introduced.
The NPP will be electing its national executives who will steer affairs of the governing party on 7 July in Koforidua.
Launching his campaign at the International Press Centre in Accra on Tuesday, 15 May, Mr Ntim said: “In view of the bold steps being taken by our government to restore the economy to where it deserves to be, when I become the National Chairman, I will lend my unalloyed support to the President and the government to give more hope to the people of Ghana.
“My partnership with President Akufo-Addo will be solid enough to secure the party a resounding victory in 2020. Because of the impeccable performance displayed by the government, grassroots members will require a strong government-party relationship to improve the fortunes of the NPP in the next general elections, and I will offer that vital leadership.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, a country like China has successfully battled with economic-threatening population figures over the years, and its leadership has gone on to enact strategies that sought to liberate millions of people from the shackles of poverty. I will pursue a key role to help this government overcome its challenges like the Chinese example.”
Mr Ntim, who is having a fourth go at the chair slot, added: “In pursuit of this noble goal, I will seek to leverage this rare opportunity to help the government fulfil the outstanding manifesto promises to the letter. At the party level, I have outlined certain far-reaching initiatives that I have been articulating to the kingmakers/delegates during my retail campaign tours.
“I am going to embark on a journey to secure economic empowerment for our party officials at all levels. I have been sharing the details with the delegates over the course of my campaign. I intend to embark on an aggressive grassroots mobilisation to increase the membership base of the party, to ensure victory 2020 and beyond. The eight-year political power monotonous jinx between NPP and NDC must be broken, and with effective grassroots organisation and mobilisation, the NPP must be able to stay in power beyond eight years. That is my irrevocable commitment to the party.
“I have had very fruitful discussions with some stakeholders in the insurance industry to explore the possible ways in rolling out a sustainable welfare package for our party officers, covering life and disability, and in due course, the details will be made known to our party members.”
