Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo has expressed frustration with his team’s defensive lapses and lack of concentration after Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The result leaves the Black Stars five points behind group leaders Angola after just two games.
Addo lamented the team’s failure to learn from their previous 2-1 home defeat to Angola, highlighting their repeated mistakes.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t learn from the home defeat against Angola. We need to do better, for sure,” he remarked.
Despite these challenges, Addo remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ qualification chances.
“Qualification is still in our hands, and we can do something about it. However, we must win the remaining games,” he stressed.
Currently sitting in third place in their group, Ghana trails second-placed Sudan by just two points.
The result leaves the Black Stars five points behind group leaders Angola after just two games.
Their next crucial encounter will be against Sudan in October, as the top two teams in each group will qualify for AFCON, set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Ghanaian fans, however, are growing increasingly frustrated. Many voiced their displeasure after the Black Stars failed to hold onto their lead against Niger. Despite going ahead through a first-half goal by Alidu Seidu, Ghana could not secure the win. Niger’s Oumar Sako found the equalizer just 10 minutes before full time at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco.
This latest setback has left fans disappointed, with some questioning the team’s intensity and focus throughout the game. The Black Stars last missed out on AFCON qualification in 2004, and the pressure is mounting for them to turn things around in the remaining matches.
