I’m Taking Over GH Music — Fancy Gadam
When Tamale-based artiste, Fancy Gadam won New Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2017, there was uproar.
He had triumphed over the likes of Medikal, Ebony, Nii Funny, Rudebwoy Ranking, Article Wan and Feli Nuna and there were allegations of cheating especially because he was little known in Accra where everybody believes all the action is.
Fast forward a few months on and Fancy Gadam has proved he more than deserved the win with his hit collaborations with artistes such as Sarkodie and packing venues even in Accra.
Fancy who held a sold-out concert at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Sunday told Showbiz in an interview on Monday that he is taking over the Ghanaian music scene.
“I am steadily taking over the Ghanaian music scene and it’s evident with the concerts I have done so far. It is rare to find an artiste from the North doing wonders across the nation.
“Although I am not an A-List artiste, I have staged three concerts, Gadam Nation at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, Gadam Nation at the National Theatre, Gadam Nation at Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra and they all have been very successful. I can confidently say that I can fill any auditorium in any part of the country,” he said.
According to Fancy Gadam, real name, Ahmed Mujahid Bello, the love shown him at all these concerts is a clear indicator that his fans are not just in the North.
In answer to what his magic formula is, the self-acclaimed King of the North, said he does not joke with his fans and finds time to meet them as often as he can.
He added that he thinks about his fans more than he does about himself because they made him who he is.
“The success I chalk at my concerts is because I have serious fans who will never miss my shows. I share my daily and weekly activities with my fans and I have more than 120 WhatsApp groups where my fans and I discuss issues concerning my brand,” he said.
Having had such a successful 2017, Fancy Gadam says he is targeting the Artiste of the Year trophy at next year’s Ghana Music Awards.
“When you’re not a ‘big’ artiste, your work is hardly noticed but anyone who follows me keenly knows I am one of the busiest artistes in Ghana.
“This year alone, I have released not less than seven singles with three videos featuring artistes such as R2Bees, Patoranking and Mr. Eazi,” he said.
Fancy Gadam is known for songs such as Total Cheat, Concrete, Naayi- Koomi, Nawuni- Yiko, Bregya, Champion Boy and Takahi.
His first album, Kalipo, released in December 2010 took the North by storm.
