‘Increase sports funding’ – SWAG to Mahama

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG)has urged President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize funding and policy development for sports as a key component of his administration’s national growth agenda.

In a congratulatory statement, SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah outlined critical areas needing immediate attention, including boosting sports funding, enhancing grassroots development, and expanding employment opportunities within the sector.

“SWAG urges the President-Elect to increase funding for sports development, develop a comprehensive sports policy, support grassroots sports development, create sports employment and make the sports sector a major part of the economy,” a portion of the congratulatory statement said.

Kwabena Yeboah explained that, “This vision has the potential to unlock the vast talents of Ghanaian youth, promote national unity, and generate significant revenue for the country.”

The association highlighted that these initiatives have the potential to harness the immense talents of Ghanaian youth, promote national unity, and boost the country’s revenue.

The statement commended Mr. Mahama’s pre-election engagements with key sports stakeholders, including SWAG, describing his dedication as a promising step towards revitalizing Ghana’s sports landscape.
