Independent Scare Hits Asawase NPP …As Dismissed Bawumia Boy Causes Traffic
Traffic flow in the Asawase Constituency was impeded on Wednesday when Manaf Ibrahim, the sacked Director of Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President, stormed the area, ostensibly to fraternize with his supporters and strategize on the way forward.
Manaf, who has also been suspended from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and disqualified from the parliamentary primary, was initially mobbed at the Kumasi Airport, where hundreds of his supporters, who were displaying party paraphernalia, accorded him a rousing welcome.
They then followed his vehicle on motorbikes and in cars as they tooted horns, while Manaf intermittently waved to the enthusiastic crowd.
Some of his supporters were heard threatening that they would mount pressure on Manaf to contest the Asawase parliamentary seat as an independent candidate during the 2020 elections.
According to them, he was unjustifiably disqualified from the parliamentary election and vowed to urge him to go as an independent candidate, since he was capable of winning.
Meanwhile, in his address to his supporters, the ‘Bawumia Boy’ said some people had consistently accused him of feigning that he was working at the Presidency and boasted that his sack letter had proved his critics wrong.
“Obviously, the letter about my sacking did not come from the abattoir. It came from the Presidency”, he teased.
According to him, he worked at the presidency for almost three years without indulging in any illegal or corrupt act to tarnish his image.
He thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, for giving him the rare opportunity to serve in their government.
