THE POWER supply in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti region and the nearby areas, will soon be boosted thereby contributing to the growth of businesses in the city and the country’s economy.
This pleasant news has come about following the decision of a renowned Spanish investor, who owns a lot of waste-to-energy companies across the globe, to invest in the Oti Land Fill Site, near Kumasi.
The Spanish investor, Jose Poch Riba, was convinced by the Ghana Ambassador to Cuba, Hon. Napoleon Abdulai, to come and invest in the Oti Land Fill Site, since the facility has potential to generate power.
The Ghana Ambassador’s positive move is in line with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration’s resolve of taking economic and diplomacy as a central policy through its bureau for economic trade and investment.
Jose Poch Riba’s company, which is christened as ‘Proinver’, has branches in countries among others Cuba, Romania and Portugal who uses modern techniques and machines to turn waste into energy.
Addressing the Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, after touring the Oti Land Fill Site on Friday, Hon. Napolen Abdulai said the investor is highly impressed about the present state of the Oti Land Fill Site.
He said the Oti Land Fill Site had been properly compacted therefore the facility has what it takes to be turned into waste to energy and lauded the KMA for a good job done at the OTI Land Fill Site.
Hon. Napoleon Abdulai said, approximately, not less than 100 million Euros would be needed to construct machines and turn the Oti Land Fill Site from waste to energy, adding that the investor can raise the amount.
Hon. Osei Assibey, said the KMA is hankering to secure an investor, who would help to turn the colossal amount of waste that are thrown at the Oti Land Fill Site into energy, saying “we are ready for business”.
