The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s renewed efforts at enhancing internal party unity is beautiful and a step in the right direction in the Party’s quest to win a third term presidential victory in a row, a difficult task tagged ‘breaking the 8’.
Apart from former Trades Minister, Alan Kyeremanten who developed some butterfly wings and flew away to form an independent movement after he lost at the party’s presidential primaries, all other contenders are still at post supporting and campaigning for the party.
Even Kennedy Agyepong, who had the next highest votes after the winner, has not left the party. He is visibly seen following and supporting the campaign.
It was a beautiful scene when Kennedy Agyepong led the other flag-bearer aspirants to preach a message of unity at the Kumasi Jubilee Park when the party officially unveiled Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate.
Even with the unofficial yet noticeable campaign for the running mate slot it was a fierce one which many had opined would lead to factionalism yet it ended in an enhanced unity.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia and flag-bearer announced to the Party that his choice of running mate was Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. The Party accepted and unanimously approved the nominee.
One of the strongest contenders who had been widely tipped for the running mate position, Irene Naa Torshie Addo-Lartey was quick to announce that she was in total support of the nomination and approval of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
She described the nomination of Dr. Opoku Prempeh to partner Dr. Bawumia as a perfect pair that would help the NPP win the 2024 polls. Other persons who were tipped for the running mate slot have since congratulated Dr. Opoku Prempeh and pledged their unflinching support.
Prior to the nomination of Dr. Opoku Prempeh, there were grapevine reports that he was not having the support of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and that his nomination would split the Party in its strongest base, the Ashanti Region.
This has turned out to be untrue as the same Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako has turned out to become the chief campaigner for the Bawumia-Napo ticket.
This enhanced unity and the concerted effort to sustain and solidify it is an exceptionally positive development which is truly beautiful and as aforesaid, the wisest way of putting the party on the right track for electoral victory.
There is strength in unity.
The NPP stands united towards the 2024 polls and The New Publisher can only wish the Party well.
