It’ll be a Big Blow for Menzgold to be Closed Down – Shatta Wale

Self-acclaimed dancehall king, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, has stated that he will be shocked if the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ends the future dream of the Ghanaian arts and culture.

In a series of tweets, Shatta Wale said, his boss Nana Appiah Mensah has paid his dues in this country.

“He didn’t just pop up. Laws yes, but Mr President I know the youth of Ghana is your main target just for us to remember you one day,” the tweet reads further.

“Don’t tell me about laws because these laws have been there but never worked for Gh musicians until Nana Appiah Mensah stepped in showed some of us the way….please Mr President do something about it for us who still have hope in your governance!!! I salute!!” he added.

The Ayoo singer noted that since the history of the music industry in Ghana, no man has had love for the Ghana Music Industry like Nana Appiah Mensah so President Akufo-Addo should not let Ghana down with the change Nana Appiah Mensah’s Zylofon and MenzGold has brought into the industry which was also the campaign message of the President thus ‘Change’.

“Since the History of Ghana music no man can boldly say he has had love like nana Appiah Mensah…Mr President thru your government this man came up!! Please don’t let Ghana down with this change Zylofon has brought in your own campaign agenda which was ‘Change’”

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) last week initiated investigations into operations of gold purchasing firm, MenzGold Company Limited.

EOCO invited the Chief Executive of MenzGold, Nana Appiah Mensah, following some concerns by the Bank of Ghana over the operations of the company.

EOCO’s action comes after the Bank of Ghana issued a fresh caution to the public against dealing with MenzGold, which the central bank said had not been licensed to trade in the business.

According to the central bank, MenzGold has no authority to engage in the solicitation, receipt of money or investments and the payment of dividends or returns to its clients which is captured in Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

In a statement issued a day after the BoG notice, MenzGold maintained that they are a law-abiding company “working within the remits of our license.”

“We hereby state emphatically that we DO NOT accept deposits from customers or carry on a deposit-taking business in Ghana. Our activities are not within the scope of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions, Act 2016, Act 930. It, therefore, CANNOT be said that we are in breach of the Act,” the statement read in part.
