Actress Emelia Brobbey says she has always had ”thick skin”, and says it helps her brush off any criticism she might get from haters online.
According to her, she’s got thick skin for the music industry she’s found herself in adding that, the numerous criticisms and trolling on social media since the release of her debut single has rather inspired her to keep going.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The New Publisher in Accra yesterday, the “fame ko” singer says she refuses to let her critics get her down adding that, she manages to keep her haters at bay because she’s always been someone who is able to brush off anything negative that’s said about her.
”I have loved music since, it has been my passion since to see me record finally to the public. I don’t really have main reason for it but I think in everything you want to get into, there is a gradual process. I might not be a good singer now but eventually I will get there.
”Sincerely speaking, I make nothing out of the social media trolls since my first single was released, I think it is normal. When you have people following you, you will get people who will hail you and you will get people who criticise and get those who will be marking you like an exams. Some will love it, some will not, it is all about opinion matter, it doesn’t bother me that much.” she said.
Emelia added ”All these two is helping me. For someone to even get time to download and listen to the songs means a lot. Ghanaians love me, if you do something and everybody says kudos, it means a lot. Positive and negative trolls, it’s all moving in my favour and I am enjoying it.”
One noticeable thing about her which has gotten many talk about is voice, and although she revealed she had been mocked for it, Emelia said she was proud of it.
“I am not that good when it comes to the technical aspect of songs in sequence to the production as to whether the producer helped me or not. Ghanaians have noticed me concerning my voice, I would work and improve upon it in subsequent songs because I am not stopping” she said.
Contrary to the impression that female artistes were wicked and did not support one another, Emelia said she had received a lot of love since her arrival on the scene, with acts like Nana Ama Mcbrown, among others all expressing support for her.
She attributed it to God and being real, saying: “It has to be God and the fact that I am me. Again I am sure they have seen what I am capable of and I’ve got what it takes, hence the love so far.”
She described herself as a go-getter and she asked music lovers and fans to look forward to great tunes and great collaborations from her.
