Accra Hearts of Oak will face Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the J.A Kufuor Cup as part of activities to mark the 80th birthday of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
A short ceremony was held at the residence of the former president on August 20, 2018, and will see the two giants of Ghana football square off.
“Now that Hearts have agreed to play the match in Kumasi to honour me, I think it’s only fair for me to state here that, for this grand match that is coming on, Kufuor would be like the father of both sides, so that we woudl enjoy a solid match between the two old rivals,’’ former President Kufour said
The game which will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium on October 28, 2018, will be a form of fundraising to build the John A. Kufuor Center of Leadership and Governance at the University of Ghana.
According to George Amoah, a member of the JAK Foundation, the organizers resorted to adding the football cup match to help raise funds for the ‘80 for 80 million cedis’ project to complete the facility at the nation’s premier university.
John Agyekum Kufuor was President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009.
He will celebrate his 80th birthday on December 8.
