A 60-year-old man is in police custody for allegedly murdering his wife in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Savannah Region.
Bora Bonbiatey, 57, was killed by Yikatey Somatey after he accused her of infidelity.
The incident which occurred in Gando around Nyanyema a suburb of Tuna was confirmed by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Divisional Police Command on Tuesday.
According to the victim’s relatives, Somatey poured pepper in the eyes of the deceased after he had asked her to accompany him to perform some family rituals.
He then used a machete to inflict multiple wounds on her until she died.
After the act, the suspect dragged the body into the bush and abscond, however, the police in the area apprehended him shortly.
The Sawla Divisional Police Commander, ASP Degraft Armah Adjei in a telephone interview with Joy News, revealed that a former Assemblyman of Tuna, Francis Vudie who is also the uncle of the deceased lodged a complaint accusing Somatey of murdering his niece.
Following the complaints, the Commander said the police quickly proceeded to the scene and found the remains of Bora Bonbiatey with multiple cuts on her head and right eye.
He noted that a postmortem conducted at the Sawla Hospital attributed the cause of death to severe head injury secondary to trauma to occipital of the laceration close to the right eye.
Adding that the body has since been handed over to the family for burial while the suspect, Yikatey Somatey is in custody assisting with investigations.
“Multiple of suspensions don’t conclude a case and for that reason, if you are not in agreement with any issue, you shouldn’t take the law into their hands but rather report the case to the police for final redress”. ASP Armah Adjei advises residents.
