Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Joe Ghartey has joined the race on his second attempt, as he picked his NPP presidential forms to contest for the upcoming flagbearer-ship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The New Juaben North Constituency Chairman, Mr. Enerst Oti Akenteng together with the presidential aspirant’s campaign team members, took the forms on his behalf on Thursday, June 1st at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in the Greater Accra region
According to a member of the campaign team, Majeed Adam, leadership of this generation must be seen as transformational rather than transitional.
To him, a competent leader is needed to enable a better Ghana than what it is today and Hon. Ghartey is fit for that role.
“He is bringing leadership, confidence, prosperity, developing the state’s economy and changing the narrative of Ghana politics as he lifts the bar to another level in terms of the benchmarking” he said.
During a press conference at Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Hall, the former Minister of Railway Development, Hon. Joe Ghartey addressed the NPP executives as well as the media after Mr. Oti Akenteng handed his nomination forms to him.
He indicated that, he is not seeking to become the presidential candidate of NPP or the president of Ghana for personal benefits.
Being in the service of the party and the country, promoting prosperity, and making preparations to give opportunities to all individuals are some of the priorities he made mention of, indicating that politics is all about hard work.
“We have worked tirelessly for this party”, he said as he recapitulated how he stood with the NPP through crucial moments since the 1990s.
Mr Ghartey further promised to give the party a new direction and provide opportunities for everyone, especially young people across the country.
He said he is seeking to become President in a bid to tackle poverty and unite the NPP and Ghanaians from all walks of life.
For him, it is time for Ghanaians to “fight poverty” rather than fight against one another.
And the several Constituency executives and chairmen who have joined Hon. Ghartey’s camp are poised to see the ruling New Patriotic Party moving in a new direction, one in which everyone regardless of their economic, social, religious or ethnic background can have equal opportunity.
The Essikado-Ketan Constituency longest-serving Member of Parliament who introduced the ‘Justice For All’ programme during former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, wants the NPP to be a party, and Ghana a country in which everyone can have equal opportunity.
And several of the executives and party members supporting Hon. Ghartey’s vision of a just, equal society, a country, and a party of opportunity for all, are highly educated, vibrant young men and women from across Ghana.
