Former President John Mahama has led a delegation from to personally visit the sites and homes of victims of the tidal waves that swept through Ketu South, Keta, Anlo and parts of the Volta Region last week.
Mr. Mahama, during the visit, donated an assortment of food and relief items to the victims and encouraged them to get over their grief.
He inspected the extent of the damage caused by the waves and called on the current government to show some empathy with the people: ““even if you cannot provide them with anything, just a visit to show that you care about them is important.”
The donated items includes 2,000 bags of rice, 2,000 student mattresses, 1,000 cans of tomato paste, 1,000 gallons of cooking oil and other items.
Relief items provided by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have been described as woefully inadequate.
Former President Mahama commented on that as well: “NADMO doesn’t have the items, and I don’t blame them. It is the fault of the administration because they are not given the sufficient resources to be able to respond.
“The little that NADMO had, they have brought it, and that is why we have come to supplement whatever they have brought and to call on the government to show sympathy to the people here”, John Mahama added.
John Mahama was accompanied by a former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC Henry Ametefe, Deputy Chairman of the Volta Region MPs Caucus, Kobby Woyome, the MP for Ketu South, and others.
