Former Black Stars captain, John Mensah, believes that Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team is performing well under head coach Otto Addo.
Mensah praised his former teammate in an interview after making an appearance at the 2024 Ghana Football Awards that had West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus emerge as the Footballer of the Year for the second time in a row.
“It’s not easy with the way the team was before he came and now he is managing to put the players back together as a unit and looking at the games they played in the qualifiers, I think they did very well. We all have to put our trust (in him) and support him and I think he will continue to do well” he said.
In his first official games on his return to the top job, Addo guided Ghana to a 2-1 win over Mali and a 4-3 win over Central African Republic in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The former AFC Sunderland defender played with Addo at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Ghana’s first appearance at the competition and is confident Ghana is on the right track to make it to the 2026 edition under Addo.
Mensah also played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa during his time with the Black Stars.
Also, the team’s goalkeeper trainer, Fatau Dauda, has raved about Otto Addo’s abilities beyond coaching.
Dauda, who serves under Otto in the latter’s second run with the Black Stars as head coach, said this in an interview after making an appearance at the 2024 Ghana Football Awards.
The former Enyimba FC player spoke extensively on the Black Stars in the wake of back-to-back wins over Mali and Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“We are trying our best to make things happen because things should be better but it takes time. The games we played are over, the games ahead are very important. He (Otto Addo) always wants to share ideas with the technical team.
“He always makes sure we align with each other…he’s a manager, he knows how to manage players not only coaching.”
