Jordan Ayew has expressed his gratitude to Leicester City for their determination to secure his transfer.
The 32-year-old Ghana international signed a two-year deal with Leicester on Friday, with Crystal Palace receiving £5 million for his transfer. Ayew has reunited with manager Steve Cooper at the King Power Stadium.
Reflecting on his move, Ayew stated, “I’m very happy to be here, and I’m proud. I want to thank the Club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly, and I’m so happy to be here. As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve.”
While Ayew’s tenure at Crystal Palace has ended, his connection with the fans remains strong. Following the official announcement of his departure to Leicester, Palace supporters took to social media to express their appreciation for Ayew. His departure was deeply felt by many fans, who highlighted the admirable rapport he built during his time at the club.
“I am absolutely gutted to see Jordan Ayew go, still can’t quite believe it. He is one of my favourite players, I am always surprised by the stick he gets from some fans. I have always seen him as a top player who worked hard for the club and was a loyal, dedicated Palace player. I waited so many times with my partner to get his photo and autograph and did, so happy we did. You are a Palace legend Jordan, we will miss you,” wrote Mandy Sterlini on Facebook.
Sam Richardson drew parallels between Jordan and his father, Abedi Pele: “The son of Abedi Pele became a true Palace legend. Massively underrated by so many, his work rate and ability to win a foul was amazing! He gave his team and our fans so much. Good luck and thank you,” he wrote.
Charlie Theofanous remarked on Jordan’s commitment: “This is actually starting to become a bit concerning. He got a lot of unjustified stick for his gameplay but Jordan always played for the shirt. I’m sad to see him go! A legend in my eyes!”
Peter Guildford echoed sentiments about Ayew’s work-rate and dedication: “Going to miss him. I must admit when we originally signed him I was less than optimistic. But boy has he proved me wrong over the years. A great servant to the club, always put in a shift and never complained (to my knowledge) once. Leicester are lucky to have him. Thanks for the memories Jordan, and all the best for the future.”
Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish praised Ayew’s contribution: “Jordan has been outstanding and selfless in his service for Crystal Palace, both on and off the pitch, not just with his goals and assists, but his all-round play, dedication and willingness to do everything we have asked of him. He has provided a fantastic example to his teammates, young and old.”
Former coach Roy Hodgson had high praise for Ayew back in November of the previous year: “He certainly is one of the most reliable and consistent players that we have. You can always rely upon him to give you 100 per cent both in his attacking play and his defending play and I think, to be honest, as players often do, as they get older and more experienced, they bring further aspects to their game which makes them better still,” added Hodgson.
Jordan’s move to Leicester, valued at £8 million, makes him the sixth Ghanaian to join the Foxes.
