Journalist Uses ‘Facebook’ To Save Burnt Girl
A 5-year old girl, who was suffering from severe burns all over her body, has been saved through ‘facebook’, a social media platform.
A Broadcast Journalist in Kumasi, Eunice Akoto Mansa Attakora Manu, who could not withstand the pain of the girl, used her ‘facebook’ page to raise GH¢11,000 to enable the burnt girl to undergo a successful surgery.
Shakiratu Yakubu is now responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where the surgery was performed.
Speaking with THE PUBLISHER, Eunice Attakora Manu, who is the CEO of Vida Victoria (VV) an NGO, said the young girl was in extreme pain.
According to her, Shakiratu got burnt all over her body under strange circumstances two years ago, and she was hospitalized in Wa.
Eunice Attakora Manu said Shakiratu was referred to KATH, where she urgently needed GH¢ 8,000 for a surgery to be performed.
Sadly, she said, the parents of the five-year old girl could not raise the amount “and I decided to jump in and help them defray the surgery cost”.
Eunice Attakorah Manu said she then solicited for funds from her ‘facebook’ friends and they were able to raise GH¢ 11,000 instead of the GH¢ 8,000.
According to her, she donated the GH¢ 11,000 to the victim and her parents “so they can use the remaining GH¢3,000 to support the upkeep of Shakiratu”.
The mother of the girl, who gave her name as Hamida, praised Eunice Attakora Manu for the gesture which has saved her child.
