Journalists Green Kumasi

CITY AUTHORITIES’ hopes of reclaiming Kumasi’s lost ‘Garden City’ status, has received a massive boost as journalists practicing in the Ashanti Regional capital have vowed to contribute to make Kumasi look green.

And to start with, the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) on Saturday embarked on a massive tree planting exercise in the city.

Led by the Regional GJA Chairman, Kingsley Hope, the journalists planted about 40 coconut seedlings at specific locations in Kumasi.

Significantly, the tree planting exercise at Denyame formed part of activities for the up-coming first ever GJA awards in the region.

Kingsley Hope said trees are important as they contribute significantly to the survival of mankind, “so we must plant more”.
He commended the journalists in the city for patronizing the exercise, adding that the exercise would be repeated periodically.

Another seasoned journalist in Kumasi, Kofi Adu Domfeh, noted that the trees would help conserve rivers, support wildlife and others.

He said with trees planted in the city, disasters such as floods could be easily minimized. He therefore implored residents of Kumasi to cultivate the habit of planting trees.
