Joy In Manya Krobo -As Akufo-Addo Picks Teddy For Ministerial Role
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last friday nominated Mr. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey as Deputy Minister-designate for the Eastern Region, following the resignation from office of Hon. Joseph Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo Constituency.
Mr. Ayertey, popularly known as Teddy, is currently a lecturer at the Koforidua Technical University, Koforidua, and was the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the Lower Manya Krobo constituency, in the Eastern Region, in the 2016 general elections.
Friday’s announcement by the presidency virtually threw the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency into a state of immeasurable joy as thousands of NPP supporters there think the President took a good decision.
According to them, the nomination of Teddy is a clear demonstration of reward for loyalty, adding that it would urge the grassroots to work harder to win the seat, which Ayertey lost in 2016 by just 327 votes.
While he polled 19,383 votes, the incumbent, Emmanuel Okletey Teilarbi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 19,710 votes.
Joseph Tetteh, in a resignation letter dated 24th August, 2018, said he wanted to focus on his parliamentary duties and also protect the seat, which he described as crucial to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
President Akufo-Addo thanked him for his service to the nation, assured him of his continuous support to enable him retain the Upper Manya Krobo seat in the 2020 elections, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The President also expressed the hope that Parliament would expedite the vetting of the new Deputy Minister-designate, so he can assume office as quickly as possible.
