Judge 110 Ministers end of 4 years Tenure – Gyimah-Boadi

Former Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Prof Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi has said although the appointment of 110 ministers by President Nana Akufo-Addo was “scandalous”, he will defer his judgment of whether they have been beneficial to Ghana, after the government’s four-year tenure ends.

“Well for some of us, the number 110 just sounded scandalous, We felt scandalous that we could have this very high numbers, but since the president says we have to watch the performance, it’s one of those areas that we have to watch” – he said in an interview with ’21 Minutes’ .

He told host Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng that: “In four years, we will get the chance, as a nation, to judge as to whether it has been worth having 110 ministers and others”, clarifying that: “I’m suggesting that there is an opportunity to make a judgement down the line, so, I will wait for that opportunity”.

Despite criticism against the size of his government, the largest in Ghana’s history, President Akufo-Addo has often defended his government, saying their performance will bear him out eventually.

Public Cry On President Akufo-Addo 110 Ministers

Over the period, there has been public outrage over the heavy size of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government but that criticism pushed him to react to the brouhaha that has greeted the appointment of 110 ministers and deputy ministers, justifying the move as critical to the effective execution of his policies and programmes.

According to the president, the furor over the number of ministers and their deputies would mean nothing when they help in the revival of the ailing economy.

Responding to criticisms over the size of his government, the president said the current challenges of the country demand the numbers to help him bring the country back on track.

“These are the background and the circumstances that were facing my government and the people of Ghana, hence we need a new paradigm shift to solve the problems,” he stated in an interview some months back.
