Kasuliyili Clinic Gets Staff Accommodation

A two-unit semi-detached fully-furnished two bedroom house to serve as accommodation for health workers at Kasuliyili Community Clinic in the Tolon District of the Northern Region has been inaugurated.

The facility, located on the same compound of the Kasuliyili Community Clinic, is to encourage health workers posted to the community to work hard to improve health care delivery in the area.

It was funded by Madam Francesca Young, a Canadian, through the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) and implemented by the Baptist Child Development Programme (BCDP), both child-centred non-governmental organisations, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Tolon District Assembly.

Dr Tetteh Quarshie, Northern Regional Director of GHS, during the inauguration of the facility at Kasuliyili, commended CCFC and its partners for the gesture and appealed for the construction of a mini-theatre and a laboratory to upgrade the clinic to offer essential health care services to the people.

The Kasuliyili Community Clinic, which was constructed in 2006 with funding from Madam Young, initially had delivery and consulting rooms, a ward and a store, but now boasts of additional infrastructure, which includes; a pavilion and wards for children and women.

The construction of the facility has helped to stem cases of maternal and child mortality in the area.

Dr Quarshie said the district had 32 demarcated Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds but only 14 were functional, implying that one-third of the people in the district lacked access to basic health care.

He therefore, appealed to the country’s development partners to work with the GHS to help make the rest of the CHPS compounds functional to provide health services to the people in the district.

Mr George Baiden, Country Director of CCFC emphasised the need for the GHS to maintain the facilities at the clinic to ensure that it continued to meet the health needs of the people.

Dr Terry Ansah, Programmes Leader of BCDP was hopeful that the residential facility would help attract more health workers to the community to work to improve health care delivery to the people.

Hajia Barikisu Yakubu, District Chief Executive for Tolon thanked CCFC and partners for the provision of the facility saying it would entice health workers to accept postings to the community.

Alhaji Alhassan Abukari Yakubu, Chief of Kasuliyili also expressed gratitude to CCFC and partners for the project.
