The management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s (KATH) decision to set up an Endowment Fund to help improve the infrastructure and equipment base of the hospital seems like a good decision.
The management of KATH had targeted GH₵ 120 million within the next five years to help address the infrastructure and equipment deficit at the largest medical facility in the northern sector of the country.
Within just three hours, the hospital managed to accrue GH₵1.8 million in cash and pledges from individuals and representatives of organizations in the country.
This amount was accrued during the official launch of the KATH Endowment Fund, which was held at the plush Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on Friday.
Board Chairman, Nana Effah Apenteng, who is also the Bompatahene, decried the massive infrastructure and equipment problems facing the hospital and urged the public to support the hospital.
KATH CEO, Dr. Oheneba Danso, said the hospital’s central location in the country had made it the preferred choice for medical care by patients from eight regions in the country and nationals from nearby countries.
He, however, lamented that despite KATH’s contributions in the health sector, the needed equipment and infrastructure to deliver have not been provided over the years, hence the decision to create the fund to address the problems.
Dr. Danso said an 11-member Board of Trustees, which includes business magnate, Kwabena Kesse, would manage the funds, and so he entreated the pubic to freely donate to the fund to boost KATH operations.
