Ken Agyapong to Face Privileges Committee
The fate of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyepong hangs in the balance after he was summoned by the Privileges committee of parliament.
Mr. Agyepong is accused of making disparaging remarks against parliament and the Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu describing the House as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu as its Majority leader. He may be sanctioned based on the outcome of the probe by the Privileges Committee.
According to the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei Owusu, if indeed Mr. Agyapong made such utterances then he has breached the law and needs to be brought before the House.
“Where complaints is made of a breach of privilege or contempt of Parliament, the Speaker may direct that the matter be referred to the committee of privileges committee and under this circumstance I direct that the honorable member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong appears before the privileges committee for the committee to determine whether indeed he uttered those words which are attributed to him and if so recommend appropriate sanctions to the house”.
