On Wednesday afternoon, several traders, including mothers and grandmothers took to their heels in a desperate attempt to avoid being run over by a speeding articulator truck that had suffered failed breaks at the Ejisu Market in the Ashanti region
The truck with vehicle registration number GT 4010-W, was fully loaded with some assorted goods and was driving in the market vicinity when its brakes failed and started to move towards the direction of the fear-stricken traders.
The traders, who were making brisk business at the time, were left with no other option than to abandon their goods and ran helter-skelter to save their lives.
The horrific incident, which happened saw a number of items, mostly food items, being destroyed by the speeding truck.
An eye witness, Shaibu, said the truck was loaded with goods to the brim and it was coming from Kumasi and heading towards the Accra direction.
Upon reaching the Ejisu township, the driver of the truck realized the vehicle had developed a fault in the break so he tried to prevent a possible crash.
The brave driver then started to shout in a loud voice, warning the other road users and hawkers to quickly leave the road to help save their lives.
After seemingly losing control of the steering wheel briefly, the driver rammed the vehicle into a small car, with registration number BA 1013-W, parked on the road side.
Even though the truck did not knock down anybody, it still ran over a number of tables and food items, destroying them in the process.
The accident was reported to the Ejisu Police, who later on towed the truck from the road to ensure the free flow of traffic on the busy stretch.
