Market Women Support KMA Decongestion
…For Decongesting K’si
THERE WERE jubilant scenes in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, when the Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, stormed the Central Market area to fraternize with traders.
The mayor and his entourage from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) were stunned as hundreds of market women left their wares just to give them a rousing welcome.
And as a sign of honour, some of the jubilant market women threw their clothes on the ground for the Mayor to walk on; but tried as they did, Hon. Osei Assibey politely refused to walk on the clothes.
The traders said they accorded the mayor a rousing welcome because they were impressed with the professional manner he had decongested the city center.
They noted that the hawkers, who were trading in the streets and pavements in the city, were destroying their work as people refused to enter the market to patronize their wares.
The traders therefore commended President Akufo-Addo for having the vision to appoint a competent and hard-working person like Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi to head KMA and develop Kumasi.
They said the decongestion exercise had drastically reduced the massive vehicular and human traffic that was making living in Kumasi very unbearable.
