The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has condemned the conduct and disassociated itself from the violent acts of one of its officials who was captured on a video recording violently assaulting a female hawker at the Central Business Market (CBM) at a place known as Mampong Road, Adum.
The said violent official goes by the name Bright Agyei and is said to be a personnel of the Community Protection Agency (CPA) under the phased-out Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
KMA, in a statement signed by Kwadwo Akuamoah Boateng, the Metro Co-ordinating Director, described the videoed conduct of Bright Agyei as a “despicable act” and said the Authority has “taken a decision to set up a committee to look into the matter to enable us apply the appropriate sanctions” while the assaulted woman has been taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
The statement said: “Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has learnt with serious concern the behaviour or conduct of one Bright Agyei, personnel of the phased-out Community Protection Agency module under the YEA who was attached to the KMA.
“The despicable act happened in the Central Business District (CBD), precisely at a place popularity known as the Mampong road, Adum.
“The act involved an assault on a female hawker which was captured on a video by a bystander and has since gone viral on social media.
“Management condemns that act and disassociates itself from such an unwarranted behaviour.
“Meanwhile, management has taken a decision to set up a committee to look into the matter to enable us apply the appropriate sanctions.
“As a first aid measure, the assaulted woman has been sent to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
“It is earnest to note that the Assembly do not support such conduct or behaviors since staff of the KMA are guided by the code of conduct of the service.”
