The Military and the Police were deployed to calm situations at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as angry students vandalised school property as part of a demonstration.
The students protested against what they call bad oppression from school authorities.
The student body destroyed several properties belonging to the school and the authorities as the situation gets out of hand.
This unfortunate situation prompted the school authorities who have called for the presence of the police and the military to calm the situation.
Several Properties Destroyed During Chaotic Demonstration
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) begun its demonstration in protest of the university’s management following the arrest of 10 students and one alumni of the school.
As part of the demonstration, the students made it known of their refusal to attend lectures.
Most of the students were clothed in red and they have mounted barriers on some roads on the campus. Not all students participated in protest as some were leaving for lectures.
The demonstrators of students in anger destroyed several properties belonging to the school and also cars of some school authorities.
Background
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) led demonstration following the arrest of 10 students and one alumnus of the school.
The Executive Council of the SRC said the demonstration was necessary to end the management’s abuse of power.
The students were arrested for a holding vigil on campus last Friday without permission.
