KNUST Students Embarks On Demo Today

Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are marching this morning from the Peace Junction to demonstrate against recent happenings in the school.

Ahead of the march, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) asked all students to boycott lectures. The march will see the presentation of a petition to school authorities.

A misunderstanding between students and the school’s security last week resulted in the arrest of some 11 students. One person is said to have been injured.

A statement by the executive council of the SRC, said the demonstration has become necessary to bring an end to what seems to be neglect on the part of university management.

“The KNUST SRC Executive Council in joint forces with SRC parliamentary council and all student leaders, bring to the notice of all KNUST students that we are embarking on a demonstration today 22nd October 2018. [There will be no lectures]. We have had enough.” – part of the statement reads.

“It must be made known to the council that students were man-handled and even in some cases brutalised, acts we find condemnably atrocious.” – the statement further revealed.

However Authorities of the school have denied claims while calling on students to attend lectures.

They claim the activities embarked on by students which led to the misunderstanding have been outlawed. They accused some alumni of instigating the students against them.
