Mrs. Gifty Horsu Fianu – Eastern Regional Sports Development Officer, has said sporting facilities in the region, would be put into better shape before hosting the National Sports Festival, later, in the year.
Mrs Horsu Fianu, who disclosed this in an interview with the GNA Sports at Koforidua, said by the end of the first quarter, the broken walls and the gates of the Nkawkaw Stadium, would be rehabilitated.
He said regional and district sports committees, have been formed to help raise sporting talents to build a formidable regional team for the festival.
Mrs Fianu said lack of resources and investment in sports is affecting development in the Eastern Region.
She said sports is a very lucrative venture that has the tendency to create job opportunities for the youth and also improve the economy of the country but seemed to have been neglected.
Mrs Fianu said, the little Internally Generated Funds (IGF) accrued from the Koforidua Sports Stadiums was use to maintain the facility to ensure that it does not deteriorate further.
