Kotoko Builds Stadium
PLANS ARE far advanced for the construction of a multi-purpose stadium in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti region by Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club.
Chairman Obeng, a top executive member of the club, disclosed that some architects are currently drawing the plan for the multi-purpose sports complex project.
He stated that Kotoko’s training pitch at Adarko Jarchie, which is very huge, would be used for the capital-intensive project.
According to him, Kotoko’s current Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kwame Kyei, is the brain behind the sports complex project, which he said would be one of a kind.
The project, when completed, would boast of amenities such as stadium, hostel to house the players and offices for administrative purposes.
Obeng indicated that Dr. Kyei would soon launch the project; the seating capacity and other important details of which would be made known on that day.
Formed in 1935, Kumasi Asante Kotoko is owned by the Asantehene and is one of the prized assets of Asanteman.
The club has conquered Africa on two occasions in their history. Despite its huge popularity on the African continent and the world at large, Kumasi Asante Kotoko doesn’t boast of its own stadium.
The team has over the years used the Baba Yara Stadium, owned by the state, for home games both in the league and African championships.
The decision by management to build a sports complex is therefore seen by many as a laudable idea.
