Kotoko suspend all league games

Asante Kotoko has decided to suspend all football activities of the senior team until further notice following the tragic murder of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, at Nana Koramansah Park.

The loyal supporter who also doubles as a Communications Member of the Supporters’ Group was stabbed to death by unknown assailants during their Matchday 19 fixture at the Nana Kronmansah Park at Twumasikrom.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the club announced it will not resume football duties until justice is served and measures are put in place to prevent such incidents from occurring again. In the meantime, the juvenile team and players recovering from injuries will continue training at the club’s center.

The club expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Frimpong, emphasizing the emotional toll the event has taken on both the team and the wider football community. Asante Kotoko has pledged its full cooperation with the police, who have already arrested three suspects in connection with the murder. The club has also expressed its appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Bono Regional Police Commander, COP Lydia Donkor, for their swift actions.

The management commended the restraint shown by their supporters, who refrained from taking matters into their own hands despite the provocation. Asante Kotoko also assured the public that they are in close contact with Frimpong’s family, offering full support during this difficult time. The club promised to provide further details on his funeral arrangements soon.

“Finally, Asante Kotoko wishes to state that all footballing activities of the senior team are on hold until further notice. Our stance remains unchanged, we will not resume footballing duties until justice is served, and concrete steps are taken to prevent such barbaric acts from ever happening again.

In the meantime, management has decided to suspend all activities relating to football on the pitch until further investigations into the matter. However, our juvenile team and players recovering from injuries who require rehab will be allowed at our training center. This is not just about Asante Kotoko; it is about Ghana football as a whole. And we will not relent until the right thing is done”, the statement read.
